Creative Arts & Music

Creative Arts are essential to the curriculum

Drama, Art and Music flourish at Clifton Lodge and play a significant role in the curriculum and after-school clubs. Our creative teachers are constantly seeking new ideas to support our pupils' creative growth while inspiring them to discover and pursue their artistic passions.

Many children take individual instrument lessons, join the choir or have LAMDA or Ballet lessons. Every pupil from Nursery to Year 6 performs in at least one event each year in front of other pupils and their parents. Pupils are given the chance to develop their talents and perform in front of an audience in a supportive environment.

It is a lovely welcoming and caring school. My child is so happy and really excited about going to school every day. It has the best possible environment for learning.

Art

Pupils participate in real art experiences

We inspire a passion for art among our pupils from Reception to Year 6. We create an environment that encourages creativity and independence so that children have the courage to share their works of art.

During lessons, pupils are encouraged to experiment with various media and consider other artists' works from a historical and international perspective.

We constantly change the projects children work on to ensure that they are fresh and relevant to the world around us.

MUSIC

Music is an integral part of our well-rounded education

Our pupils in all school stages benefit from lessons with our expert Music Teacher each week. In addition to building creativity and teamwork, music classes also allow our pupils to grow in confidence and self-esteem.

Alongside scheduled music lessons, we have a thriving choir in Prep and Pre-Prep. Both give the opportunity to perform at events throughout the year in front of their parents and in the local community. All our year groups also regularly participate in singing at events and can enjoy individual piano or guitar lessons with our expert peri teachers.

School Choir & Band

We have a thriving main school choir at Clifton Lodge

Pupils from Year 3 can audition to be part of the choir at the start of the academic year. Being part of the choir requires a commitment to learn the songs, attend rehearsals twice a week at lunchtime, and all the performances.

The choir cover a wide ranging repertoire of songs and styles from classical, baroque, folk, pop, blues to name a few. The children enjoy singing in three part harmonies as well as in unison and acapella. They perform at many of the school events and festivals throughout the year such as Harvest and Remembrance assemblies, the Christmas carol concert, the Spring concert and Speech day.

Alongside the choir, our school band performs regularly at events with pupils encouraged to join and play instruments including keyboards & percussion to accompany the choir.

DRAMA

Drama lessons are part of our core curriculum

Pupils have numerous opportunities to take part in events and productions throughout the year which showcase their talents in music and drama. In addition, we regularly invite ‘Perform’ into school to hold drama workshops with our Lower School pupils.

Older pupils can take part in our annual drama production, there are opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes to get involved.

In addition, we have an excellent LAMDA (speech & drama) Teacher. Pupils are taught in small groups and take external LAMDA examinations.

We also have Ballet Lessons from Early Years to Year 4 with our teacher, Anna Davydova.
